About this initiative

Bilateral activity in this application is collaboration between Norwegian artists (Susie Wang, Fredrik Petrov) and Slovene festival Mladi levi – co-financing of knowledge exchange and mobility between Norwegian artistic teams and the Slovene festival. Festivals are places of sharing knowledge where local audiences as well as professionals (such as international programmers, local artists, students …) can meet and get informed about foreign production. Additional value of presenting specific national aesthetic and theatre practice in its native format of theatre performance, is that it’s also opened to broader public, not only professionals. In this setting, art has the ability to speak on many levels and to many different interest groups. Mladi levi festival strives to additionally support this broad openness through various approaches, such as ticket policy focusing on traversing class differences and support of workshops for young theatre-makers and critics. The purpose hence is to present contemporary professional, top-notch Norwegian performing art by presenting two performances while also organizing formalized exchange of knowledge between experienced Norwegian artists and aspiring Slovenian theatre makers at the beginning of their professional careers.

Results achieved

The aim of bilateral initiative "Innovative Norway theatre productions and knowledge exchange at Mladi levi festival" was to support collaboration, knowledge exchange and mobility between Norwegian artistic teams (Susie Wang, Fredrik Petrov) and Slovenian festival Mladi levi. All bilateral activities were carried out in the framework of the 27th international festival "Mladi levi", which took place in August 2024 in Ljubljana. The Norwegian artists presented themselves for the first time to the Slovenian audience, which received them very well. All four performances were sold out. During their stay in Ljubljana, the Norwegian artists participated in two meetings/workshops with students of the Academy of theatre, radio, film and television. In the workshops and meetings they talked about their way of working, about collectives, about "devised" theatre. They also met with the participants of the TestArt network meeting and participants of the Jump into Street Criticism programme.
