About this project

Microbiome-related services is growing steadily, and researchers are ready to provide information that can be used by people, practitioners, nutrition and health care specialists. Nutrition advice services must be based on thorough analysis of human gut microbiota, however, science-based solutions and web interfaces helping practitioners at first level health care to give nutrition advice are not available. In this project, a nutrition counselling service for nutritionists and primary care providers will be developed and tested. The main aim is to increase the scientific basis of nutrition advice and the accuracy of prediction methods to complement the means used to prevent and treat (modern non-communicative) chronic diseases.

As a result, the microbiome analysis services will develop into more controlled, knowledge-based and reliable service in the future. Thanks to the program this development process will be faster and more efficient. It is expected to implement several new nutrition services starting from quantitative evaluation of nutrition data and ending with advanced personal nutrition advice.

The target group is regular clients who visit GP or nutrition specialist and in addition to general analyses will receive additional information about their eating advice. The convenient user interface for GP or nutrition specialists will help to improve explanation of results of microbiome analysis and facilitate increased usage of this type of analysis in nutrition counselling practice.
