About this project

The project included the identification and characterization of construction and demolition waste produced in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, and the laboratory evaluation of its potential for recovery by incorporation into construction materials. There was a concern that this valorization should be carried out through technologies of current use for a gradual transition to more sustainable construction methods.

Eight types of waste were identified and characterized, namely expanded polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), plasterboard, Japonica Cryptomeria wood, glass and recycled aggregates, six of which were selected for laboratory testing and development of demonstrator models of recovery solutions and life cycle assessments.
