About this project

Rybnik is one of the cities with the worst air quality in Europe. The project aims to maintain uninterrupted supply of heat to the municipal heating network from the heating season 2020/23. The project will reduce the interference of generation sources with the environment and contribute to the improvement of air quality. The scope of the project covers the construction of two gas-fired cogeneration units located in in two separate locations within the city. The units will be powered by natural gas from the local pipeline. Unit’s total rated power: 11MWe (2 x 5.5 MWe) and 11 MWt (2 x 5.5 MWt). Heat will be distributed directly by a heating network which already exists. Electricity will be sold to the local operator of electricity infrastructure. The project will improve energy efficiency by reducing consumption of primary fuels by 35.50%, increasing the share of clean energy technologies in the generation-mix and limiting direct CO2 emissions by 67.59%.

The beneficiaries of the project are the inhabitants of Rybnik and surrounding communes. The project will contribute safeguarding heat supply and will enable development of the domestic hot water market.
