Media Sexploitation: See it, Say it, Stop it.

About this project

The proliferation of sexualised context across media platforms and the manner in which pornographic content has become so easily accessible through the digital platforms raises concerns in the manner that it affects young teens/children. Early exposure to such content not only anticipates sexual activity but also reinforces negative gendered attitudes and beliefs about women's and men's roles. As a result, girls are being taught to be submissive, objectified and sexualised, falsely believing that they will achieve female empowerment if they follow these traits. On the other hand, boys/men are being indirectly taught to be aggressive towards girls/women, use them and objectify them to gain power and control. This project seeks to highlight these dangers and how to resist the negative impact hypersexual media content can have on adolescents' lives and society at large by educating adolescents through schools, caregivers and teachers. Activities shall include training seminars for teachers from three schools and training for caregivers supported by an awareness raising campaign aimed at students and the general public.
