Background

The action responds to acute and unpredictable political and administrative pressures on the functioning of civil society. The first set of activities is dedicated to the direct protection of the organisation and its
staff against intimidation and administrative exhaustion, manifested by the filing of a false criminal complaint against a colleague and predicted abuses of inspection or parliamentary procedures. The second set of activities addresses the risk of political apathy and information noise resulting from
numerous parallel procedures. The organisation will therefore develop and launch a centralised online platform to track the status of various civil society initiatives and referendum campaigns, providing the critical public and the broader civil society with easy access to verified information and clear instructions for activation and constructive participation.

Activities

Our main purpose is to use the proposed action and its related activities to defend the space for the critical voice of civil society and ensure that civil society initiatives do not lose momentum due to political pressure or citizens becoming overwhelmed. By implementing two complementary sets of activities, we aim to achieve the following:

1. Organisational resilience and legal and digital security: By engaging a reputable law firm, we will ensure an effective defence against a false criminal complaint and develop protocols for upcoming inspections and parliamentary inquiries. Through an internal penetration test and training, we will immediately address digital security vulnerabilities. In this way, we will protect the team from burnout and staff turnover and establish safeguards for the entire sector, demonstrating that civil society will not be intimidated.

2. Transparency and public empowerment: We will develop and launch a central online platform for monitoring the status of all civil society initiatives opposing government measures. The platform will provide the public with clear, verified information in one place, together with direct guidance on how they can take action (e.g. where and when to submit a signature). In this way, we will help prevent a decline in public support and channel citizens’ frustration into constructive participation.

Expected results

Izboljšana bo pravna pripravljenost in pravno varstvo ekipe.

Okrepljena bo digitalna varnost in odpornost organizacije.
