Uccu Roma Informal Educational Foundation ·Hungary
Background
The Uccu Foundation’s vision: An open, inclusive, and compassionate society built on dialogue between individuals and cultures, mutual respect, and a sense of responsibility toward one another. Roma cultures are an integral part of Hungarian culture, and Roma communities are integral building blocks of Hungarian society; therefore, their development is only possible through shared paths.
The Uccu Foundation plays an important role in promoting non-formal education and raising awareness of the perspectives of Roma communities, thereby fostering dialogue and understanding between the Roma and non-Roma communities in Hungary. The organization’s strategic goals include completing its ongoing restructuring process, streamlining its leadership structure, strengthening its staff’s professional knowledge and confidence, diversifying its revenue structure, and launching new development processes (e.g., impact assessment, training accreditation).
Activities
Our core activities (awareness-raising workshops, city walks, Roma internship program) are complemented by the development of a Roma historical archive and the operation of a network of local Roma organizations. Our organization enters a new phase and stabilizes for the long term (both domestically and at the European level); the young Roma intellectual community is strengthened; an informal knowledge-sharing network of small local Roma initiatives is established and reinforced. As a result of our awareness-raising work, understanding between Roma and non-Roma groups strengthens, promoting social inclusion, and domestic NGOs become able to involve Roma communities more effectively and democratically.
Expected results
The Uccu Foundation plays an important role in non-formal education and amplifying the perspectives of Roma communities, fostering dialogue and understanding between Roma and non-Roma communities in Hungary. At the organizational level, our strategic goal is to complete our organization’s ongoing transformation process, restructure our leadership, strengthen our staff’s professional knowledge and confidence, diversify our revenue structure, and launch new development processes (e.g. impact assessment, training accreditation). Our main goals at the sectoral level: establishing an informal network of local Roma organizations, representing the perspectives of Roma communities and sharing related knowledge, and engaging in policy-making processes of public education and Roma affairs.
